Take time & analyze their performance instead of creating new ones.
Find pages with:
-most & least organic traffic/backlinks
-2nd/3rd page ranking
-low CTR, etc.
You'll find many opportunities by optimizing your existing content.

There’s nothing wrong with this approach.
